Recover a suspended Google Business Profile
What to do if Google suddenly hides or suspends your listing.
Read the suspension email carefully
Google emails a reason, sort of. Common reasons: business name doesn't match reality, wrong category, address issue, prohibited category (weapons, adult, gambling). Screenshot the email.
Do NOT create a new listing
Instinct says: 'I'll just make a new one.' Don't. Duplicate listings cause permanent bans. Only try to recover the existing one.
Fix the underlying problem first
If your business name had keywords ('Best Plumber NYC'), rename it to the real name. If your service area was too broad, narrow it. Whatever triggered the suspension, undo it before appealing.
Submit a Reinstatement Request
Go to support.google.com/business, click 'Contact us', then 'Reinstate a suspended profile'. Fill the form with your business details, address proof (utility bill), and photos of storefront if applicable.
Wait 3 to 14 days, then follow up
Google's team is slow but real humans review these. If no reply after 14 days, submit a second request referencing the first case number. Don't spam, one follow-up is enough.
Prevent future suspensions
Never edit multiple fields at once (name + address + category same day flags the algorithm). Wait a week between changes. Keep NAP consistent everywhere on the web.
