Get more 5-star reviews on Google

A repeatable, non-spammy system for asking happy customers to leave reviews.

  1. Grab your short review link

In your Google Business Profile dashboard, click 'Ask for reviews'. Google generates a short link (like g.page/r/xxxxx/review). Copy it, this is your golden asset.

  2. Turn it into a QR code

Paste the link into a free QR generator (qr-code-generator.com). Print the QR on your receipt, business card, or a small tent card next to the register. One scan = review page.

  3. Ask right after the 'wow' moment

The best time to ask is 30 seconds to 30 minutes after the customer smiled. Not the next day. Not next week. Say it out loud: 'If you had a good time, a Google review really helps our small business.'

  4. Send a friendly SMS follow-up

For appointment businesses, text customers 2 hours after they leave: 'Thanks for coming in today, [name]! If you have 30 seconds, would you leave us a Google review? [link]'. Personalise the name, automated-looking texts get ignored.

  5. Reply to every single review

Within 48 hours, reply to every review, good and bad. Thank the positive ones by name. For negative ones, apologise briefly, offer to fix it offline, never argue publicly.

  6. Handle bad reviews without panic

One 3-star review actually helps, a business with all 5-stars looks fake. Reply calmly, offer a resolution, and move on. If a review is fake or from a non-customer, flag it via 'Report review', Google removes many, slowly.

  7. Track weekly, aim for 4 per month

Set a simple target: 4 new reviews per month, ~1 per week. Add it to your Monday team huddle. Businesses that hit this modest cadence outrank 90% of competitors within 6 months.

That’s the whole thing.
