Guide
Create your Google Business Profile
Get your business on Google Maps and Search so nearby customers can find, call, and visit you.
Open Google Business Profile
Go to google.com/business and click the 'Manage now' button. Sign in with the Gmail account you want to permanently own the profile with, ideally a business email, not a personal one.
Enter your business name exactly
Type your real, legal-looking business name. Do NOT stuff keywords like 'Best Plumber NYC', Google penalises this and it looks spammy to customers.
Pick the closest business category
Choose the primary category that best describes what you sell (e.g. 'Coffee shop', 'Wedding photographer'). You can add secondary categories later.
Add your service area or address
If customers visit you (shop, restaurant), enter your exact street address. If you go to customers (plumber, cleaner), skip the address and add service areas by zip code or city instead.
Add phone number & website
Use a phone you actually pick up during business hours. If you don't have a website yet, use your Facebook page or Instagram profile URL, anything is better than empty.
Verify your business
Google will offer verification by postcard, phone, email, or video. Postcard takes 5–14 days and arrives at your business address. Complete verification, you cannot appear on Maps until this is done.
Complete every field
Add opening hours, at least 5 real photos (outside, inside, product, team, logo), a short 'from the business' description, and any attributes (wheelchair access, outdoor seating, Wi-Fi).
Ask your first 5 customers for reviews
From your dashboard, click 'Get more reviews' and share the short link with happy customers by text or WhatsApp. Aim for 5 reviews in the first 2 weeks, this alone unlocks noticeably better ranking.
That’s the whole thing.
