Remote & Hybrid Teams

Guide

Choose the right tools for a hybrid team

Avoid the trap of picking tools built for either fully-remote or fully-in-office, when you're neither.

  1. Pick one system of record for decisions

Notion, Confluence, or a shared doc, doesn't matter which, but pick one place where decisions get written down. Hallway conversations should always get logged there afterward.

  2. Make meetings equally accessible in-room and remote

A decent webcam and external mic in every meeting room matters more than people expect. Remote attendees straining to hear a muffled in-room conversation quickly disengage.

  3. Default every meeting invite to include a video link

Even if everyone expected happens to be in the office that day, plans change. A meeting with no remote option accidentally excludes whoever ends up working from home.

  4. Rotate who's remote-first in a meeting

If half the team is in a room and half is on video, the video half is often talked over. Occasionally have everyone join from their own laptop, even people in the office, to level the playing field.

That’s the whole thing.
